Hinde Street
is an active church with a membership of around 160. It provides
a range of activities for children and young people, from crèche
and Junior Church on Sunday mornings at 11, through Stuff
for teenagers, to Sunday Night Group for students and young adults.
The Methodist movement has always stressed that we are called to
build each other up in Christ and long before anyone else
discovered cells or home groups, Methodists
were meeting in classes. The church has a number of
active classes, meeting in homes, for prayer, fellowship, mutual
care and learning.
As well as being heavily involved in the Social Work Ministry of
the Mission, Hinde Street runs the Wednesday Club, providing shelter,
company and cheap food for street homeless and others, and the church
is a major London centre for 12 step groups, such as Alcoholics
and Narcotics Anonymous.
Hinde Street church is a welcoming church. It is multi-cultural
with active links to many parts of the world.
A number of people live and work in a major city for a limited period
of time, but many have found a home with us, and its good
to keep in touch when people move away. It has a history of student
activity, and even though the pattern of student life has changed,
there are always some students involved here, whether living in
one
of the Communities, in voluntary work in our Social Work Ministry,
or in worship.
Hinde Street church is a beautiful building located in the heart
of the West End. People come here to meet others, or to get married,
or to find space to pray, or to find someone to talk to. They find
a community that accepts rather than judges, that encourages diversity
rather than squeezing everyone into a religious mould. We have active
links with other Churches, with other faith groups and with secular
organisations.
