Position Available: Cantonese-Speaking Lay Worker & Mandarin-Speaking Lay Worker

Based in: There is an office at Kings Cross Methodist Church but the worker may work from home and will be required to travel.

Salary range: £23,958 per annum ILW (pro rata) + Pension

Part time: 18.5 hours per week

West London Mission has been serving people affected by homelessness, poverty and trauma since 1887. We are part of the Methodist Church and run a wide range of services which empower people to live more fulfilling lives. 

The West London Mission is a Circuit of the Methodist Church. It is a Circuit with two city-centre churches at Hinde Street in Marylebone and King’s Cross, and three Circuit mission projects. For more information about us see HERE.

Kings Cross Methodist Church has run a service for legal and illegal migrant workers since 2000. In 2005 a Mandarin-speaking congregation was established and has now grown to 70-80 members. 70-80% of the membership is migrant workers and their children.

The Role

The Cantonese and Mandarin-speaking Lay Workers are employed to work alongside the minister and as part of a team. There are three main areas of work.

  1. Working with the minister to provide pastoral care for the non-English speaking members
  2. Taking the lead in areas identified and agreed with the minister among the non-English speaking members of the church and training and recruiting a team to work together on these projects. 
  3. Administration.
