ABOUT HINDE STREET METHODIST CHURCH

Hinde Street Methodist Church is a historic church in Marylebone. We are part of the inclusive church movement, and welcome everyone regardless of their age, race, gender, sexuality, socio-economic status, physical, and mental ability. We are a gathered congregation, and through Zoom welcome people from around the world to participate in our traditional worship service that has a strong emphasis on social justice. We have a variety of classes, and run programmes such as a meditation group and a weekly club for the homeless and their friends to get a bite to eat and take a break from the streets. Pre-covid, more than 60 twelve-step groups met at the church, and it is also the rehearsal home of the London Philharmonic Choir.

We have developed a 2030 vision that centers Hinde Street’s physical presence in the local Marylebone community, with a dynamic and vibrant online presence with a global reach, and are beginning our journey to deliver the strategy that will get us there.

ABOUT WEST LONDON MISSION

The West London Mission is a circuit of the Methodist Church.  Its two churches are at Hinde Street and King’s Cross. It runs a student hostel called Methodist Chaplaincy House (MCH) and works with young adults and students across its churches.

The West London Mission also runs a series of social work programmes under the name WLM Services, which has a mission to empower people affected by homelessness, poverty and trauma to make positive changes in their lives.   WLM Services provide a range of services including supported accommodation for ex-military personnel, a residential care home for people with alcohol dependency, a hostel for men coming out of prison, advice and support for rough sleepers, affordable counselling and financial resilience services.

SUMMARY OF POST

The Digital Communications and Outreach Officer is a new role for Hinde Street Methodist Church, and is a key role that has been created to help Hinde Street grow as a congregation and as a cornerstone of the local community. We see this in two areas:

  • To communicate better. To tell our story with energy and clarity, sharing the message that God’s love is for everyone, and that as Christians we are called to speak out against social injustice. We want this to lead to bringing new people into the Hinde Street community. We also want this to lead to stronger engagement within the existing church community, whether that is through participating in more church activities, the giving of time and talents, or through additional financial support.
  • To help Hinde Street market our meeting rooms and the church more effectively, to increase revenue from our lettings and the number of community groups we support.

Please see the full job description and application form.

For any questions about the role, please contact Miriam Kennedy ([email protected]) or Peter Cornick ([email protected])

Please apply by 15th August 2021. We intend to interview early August and may have two rounds of interviews.
