On yer bike for West London Mission!
When: Sunday 16th September 2018
Where: Starting in London, finish line on Brighton sea front
Event Type: Cycling
Join over 4,000 cyclists and embark on this flagship challenge taking you from London’s Clapham Common, through Surrey’s beautiful country lanes and stunning Sussex scenery, facing the steep ascent of Ditchling Beacon before being rewarded with breathtaking views of the South Downs.
From here, you will be soaring downhill for those last few miles towards the Brighton seafront. Your epic challenge will come to an end as you race through the flag-lined finish to the cheers of spectators and the chance to put your bikes aside and enjoy some well-deserved celebrations in the London to Brighton event village by the sea.
This is a beautiful and rewarding journey which makes the ideal challenge for any keen cyclist! Whether you are an experienced rider or taking on your first cycling challenge, completing the event will be within your capabilities, as long as you put in some training first! The spirit of the event is ‘taking part’ not ‘winning’ so you can go as fast or as slow as you like.
After you finish the ride, you will be able to enjoy the L2B Event Village with delicious food stalls, bar, yoga area, merchandise stall, charity tents and more – giving your spectators plenty to keep them entertained on the day and a fantastic setting to celebrate your cycle success!
We are asking each cyclist to fundraise £250 for this challenge event. All the money raised will go directly towards supporting more street homeless people like the 249 people we assisted into housing last year.
You’ll receive dedicated support from our fundraising team, including updates about our work, handy hints and tips to reach your goal, and of course – the all-important WLM cycling shirt!
A truly iconic route and a fantastic day out: This challenge grows bigger and better year on year and 2018 is set to be the biggest ride yet! The cycle brings an array of different people from all walks of life and of all abilities as you unite to take on this 54 mile ride for street homeless and vulnerable people in London.
Free buffet lunch: This takes place at 29 miles in the picturesque village of Turners Hill. You can eat as much as you like from the delicious pastas to famous carrot cake!
Free water stops: These take place at 21 miles in the morning and 46 miles at the top of Ditchling Beacon – a well deserved rest and refresh.
Full mechanical support: There are four stationary mechanic points (at the start, at the morning and afternoon water points, and at lunch) but if you're unlucky enough to experience difficulties in between those points we also have roaming mechanics too – you can just give them a call!
Fully signed route: No need to look at a map – the route is fully sign-posted so that you can keep your eyes on the road and enjoy the wonderful surrounding countryside.
Hugely popular Facebook group: You can meet fellow cyclists ahead of the trip and if you're on your own you can find other solo cyclists to cycle with! The Facebook page is also a great place to gets lots of tips and advice on the ride from more experienced cyclists which can be found here.
