We are very pleased to announce that the West London Mission has been awarded a Hyatt Community Grant of US$20,000! Our local Hyatt hotel, The Churchill in Portman Square, nominated WLM for the global grants scheme earlier this year to fund West London Day Centre’s Employment Support Programme for 6 months, helping homeless people back into employment.
Hyatt Community Grants, a key component of Hyatt Thrive – Hyatt’s global corporate responsibility platform – encourages hotels worldwide to identify and nominate local nonprofits for funding consideration. The program builds on Hyatt’s belief that no one better understands a community’s most pressing issues – and their solutions – that those that live and work there.
“Through the Hyatt Community Grants program, we are able to recognise nonprofits in our city that are committed to addressing the greatest needs in our community,” said Michael Grey, general manager of The Churchill. “We have been working with WLM since 2012, and we know this gift will help them continue the important work they are accomplishing.”
WLDC’s employment support group runs 2 afternoons a week with up to 10 clients in each session. In just the last couple of weeks the group has helped 2 men to find work, one who has started work as a kitchen porter and the other found both employment and accommodation at a live in job in a hotel in Scotland.
