11th January 2022

On 19th March 2022, around 1000 walkers will strut, march and meander through the streets of  Central London, to raise much-needed funds for homeless charities across the city.

The London Walk is presented by the London Homeless Collective, a group of 25 homeless charities from across the capital, who work from pavement to policy to put an end to homelessness.

In London, an estimated 169,900 people are homeless – that’s the equivalent of 1 in every 52 people in the city. Every year, around 11,000 people sleep rough on London’s streets, and every night, an estimated 12,500 people are hidden homeless2. These are the people that we don’t see, who go between sleeping on sofas, in squats or on public transport in their endeavours to stay safe.

The London Walk aims to raise £100,000 in its inaugural year, every penny of which will go towards supporting the work of the London Homeless Collective members, including WLM.

Rick Henderson, CEO of Homeless Link – one of the members of London Homeless Collective – commented “Homelessness is not an easy issue to overcome. It’s an issue that can only be tackled with joined-up thinking, collaborative actions, and group experience. That’s why the London Walk is  so important to the cause – it’s a physical and visual representation of what we are doing together,  in London, to support the community.”

The London Walk will kick off at 9pm on Saturday 19th March, with both a 10km or Marathon route.  Both routes will start and finish in Trafalgar Square at the HQ of The Connection at St Martin’s,  another LHC member. The marshalled routes will journey through Central London, the West End and Westminster, passing many landmarks and including pit-stops at LHC members including The Passage in Victoria.

It’s expected that 10km walkers will finish around midnight, while the Marathon walkers will be going through to daybreak.

Rick Henderson added “It’s going to be quite a sight and a real show of solidarity in the city. A  thousand people, at night, walking together, for their fellow Londoners.”

Walkers are invited to take part as individuals or in a group, with the option to walk for their local homeless charity, or for the London Homeless Collective as a whole.

Each walker will receive a FREE WLM beanie hat, a handwaving flag and a running t-shirt for the night!

Terms & Conditions

WLM pays the London Homeless Collective £60 per space. In order to ensure that we do not lose any of our vital funds we ask that each participant pays £60 to WLM upon registering for the walk (or a corporate can pay for their whole team). This acts as a deposit in case an individual does not reach their fundraising target. Upon reaching their fundraising target, participants may request for their £60 to be refunded, or it will be treated as a donation to WLM. Upon registering for the event you will be contacted for this payment. If you have any concerns regarding this £60 payment but feel very confident in meeting your fundraising target, then please get in touch with Zoe ([email protected]) to discuss, we would love for you to walk for us.
