WLM The Haven

We love providing care which is centred around each person's individual needs

WLM The Haven is a Registered Care Home which is a sanctuary for 26 men with long-term alcohol dependency. Many of our residents have experience of street homelessness and many have suffered from untreated illnesses and injuries, as well as the long term effects of poor diet and the mental health conditions associated with chronic alcoholism. The Haven provides a stable environment where our residents can make positive changes in their health, well-being and personal lives.

In this year’s survey on the satisfaction and perspectives of our residents, their next of kin and social workers, we accomplished an overall satisfaction of a remarkable 84%. In addition, we continue to reunite service users with their families with over 76% of residents now in contact with a family member. This helps bring about major changes to their quality of life.

Over the next 12-months we will continue to implement changes in how the service operates. This will include introducing a new electronic care management system, focusing on the development of more external activities, recruiting new volunteers to supplement the great work of the Project Work Team and ensuring that occupancy is as high as possible.

“Recently a relative of one of our residents said to me, ‘the existence of somewhere like The Haven is the mark of a civilised society’. I feel proud to work for an organisation that supports those who are otherwise ignored.”   Alan Robertson, Senior Project Worker, The Haven
